Abstract: China has been long reputed as a country with a vast land, rich resources, a large population and a long history. This land has trained many outstanding figures, has created world-known wonders and has made great contributions to human civilzation. However, China was at a standstill by the end of the Qing Dynasty and was lagging behined because of the long rule of feudalism and frequent wars. Even after the introduction of the western culture through invasions of imperialists, China did not fully appreciate its natural resources, nor did it exploit them because of the semi-feudalism and colonialism of the country. The country was remained backward and humiliated. To sum up, since more than thirty years, the studies of the problems of ice had made great advances not only in the width but also in the depth. These advances are owing to two main factors, one is the development of the national economy especially the need of energy exploitations, the other is the effective lead, organization and financial support by government. Hence, the development of economy needs the studies of ice problems, on the contrary, the studies of ice promotes the development of economy. It may be expectedted that the ice investigations in China will make a more vigorous advance in the future.
