Abstract: This paper gives a description of a mathematical model simulating growth of anchor ice on the river bed and subsequent progressive release of this ice from the bottom. The basic approach is detailed heat transfer analysis. Calibration was based partly on direct observation and partly on records of changes in water level during five winters. The model was prepared in the course of studies on the proposed Archipel hydro-power station. To our knowledge, it is the first mathematical model on anchor ice.
