Abstract: Due to the growing need of climatic conditions a new effective technique has been developed which permits trapping and directing of drift brash ice, melting of ice sheet, laying of ice-free approach fairways as well as icening suppresion of ships and shiplifts. The operation of ice protection devices is based on different mechanical, thermal, pneumatic and hydraulic principles. Using the ice protection devices permits the duration of cargo handling and ship repairing to be reduced by 10-15%.
