Abstract: It is widely known that the undersides of ice covers in rivers have wavy forms. Researchers have attributed these undulations on the bottom of ice covers to be caused both by hydraulic, as well as by thermal effects. This paper deals with the theoretical derivation of the differential equations for the formation of wave forms beneath floating covers based on a hydraulic analysis.
