Abstract: Acoustic signals were emitted while frazil was beginning to form in a container in a freezer. The signals were counted, and the number of counts was considered in relation to the air temperature in the freezer. Preliminary results are ambiguous, but it is expected that improvements in the apparatus will make it possible to determine to what extent this technique can be developed to permit the detection and measurement of frazil in fast-flowing streams.
