Abstract: Ice problems have received much attention in the U. S. S. R for many years, the research being a subject of continuing concern to public and state authorities. Major results of ice research in this country have been reported in the lecture read by the author at the 2nd Ice Symposium held in Leningrad in 1972. The present lecture deals with the results of the investigations carried out in the U. S. S. R. over the recent five years. Basic modifications introduced into procedures for evaluating ice effects on hydraulic structures, as well as some results of field and laboratory studies are outlined.
