Abstract: The problem is considered of ice jam formation at the end of the reservoir backwater curve due to the submergence of ice floes under the edge of the stationary ice cover. Proceeding from a previously established law of ice floe submergence and experimental data, the feasibility is substantiated by studying the above phenomena using wind tunnel models. Experimental findings are presented, resulting in a quantitative evaluation, to a first approximation, of ice jam formation mechanism.
