Abstract: Porous breakwaters are becoming popular due to the relatively minor impacts that they cause on the coastal environment and neighbouring beaches when compared to those by conventional breakwaters. In this study, a breakwater consisting of two vertical permeable plates supported by two rows of vertical piles with perforated upper and lower part was proposed. The wave transmission, reflection and energy dissipation characteristics of the breakwater under regular waves for a normal angle of incidence were studied analytically by the eigenfunction expansion method. The analytical results were compared with published results - both experimental and analytical. This demonstrated the capability of the analytical model to reproduce most of the important features of the interaction
