Abstract: This study aims to identify potential recharge areas in the spring of La Mintzita in the state of Michoacan, as well as to provide information and knowledge for the improvement of water quality and identify possible contaminating sources, which is obtained through the map algebra developed in a geographic information system, generating 7 thematic maps: Hydrogeology, Land Use, Soil Type, Slope, Drainage Density, Precipitation and Density of Geological Faults, with this, the score of the percentage of influence of each thematic layer is evaluated, from interrelation between all factors; establishing a range of values between 1 to 7 ranging from minimum influence to maximum influence on recharge respectively. The final map of potential recharge zone (PGR) is generated from the weighting of the layers by their influence factor on recharge; subsequently, maps of the physical and chemical parameters measured in the field and in the laboratory are made, to superimpose it on the PGR map, thus identifying a high recharge zone in the center of the city that may be influencing nitrate contamination in the centrika well due to anthropogenic activities.
