Abstract: A partnership project was launched in 2022 to prepare basis for the purpose of bedload management strategy in the Sava River basin in Slovenia. To support the design of this strategy a two-dimensional sediment transport model was prepared to identify bedload quantities, volumes, balance and key locations in the most bedload-laden basin of Sava River, the Sava Dolinka River. For optimal processing, model domain was divided into 9 segments. Sediment/bedload transport model boundary conditions were set for three hydrological scenarios- single Q100 event, wet and dry year. Results show the river bedload capacity along the individual segment, representative areas of exceeding levels of erosion and especially deposition. Additionally, averaged annual/event-based quantities of transported bedload show the approximate expected bedload balance, volumes for predefined scenario together with insight into future trends of bedload dynamics. These data, among others, provides the competent authorities with one of the key data to grant concession rights for commercial gravel extraction.
