Abstract: The El Nino phenomenon in 2017 in Peru caused damage to major critical infrastructure and directly affected almost 2 million people. The Autoridad para la Reconstruccion con Cambios (ARCC) was created with a mandate to rebuild improved health and education infrastructure and provide resilient and sustainable solutions to flood and mass movement risk, including the implementation of Natural Infrastructure (NAI) interventions. A Government-to-Government agreement was established between Peru and the United Kingdom government to support the ARCC on this work, with a UK Delivery Team (UKDT) formed of Arup, Mace, and Gleeds to provide technical, delivery, and cost/contract assurance. As part of the collaborative work between specialist multidisciplinary technical teams of UKDT and ARCC, UKDT is providing technical assurance during the design development and implementation stages of the NAI projects, supporting ARCC with development of technical requirements for procurement, reviews of technical deliverables by Contractors, and creation of discipline specific guidance based on international best practice, and applied to the reality of the local context. An overarching NAI Guidance document, rooted on the principles of Nature-based/Natureintegrated Solutions provides a conceptual framework and practical tools to deliver environmental, societal and economic resilience.
