Abstract: During the period 2013 2018, various noticeable hydrological and morphological changes were observed in the tidal river Elbe, such as an unusually high increase in tidal range and turbidity, as well as increased sedimentation rates. A lot of hydrographic data has already been collected, analyzed and correlations have been discovered. In the research project ELMOD this period is simulated in a three-dimensional hydro- and morphological hindcast model of the Elbe estuary. With the already existing and newly acquired, during this project, data, the numerical model as well as the understanding of sediment transport processes in estuaries and coastal waters will be improved. In order to simulate the observed changes in the model, different modeling approaches and parameterizations have to be adapted.
