Abstract: Area Reduction Factors (ARF) were obtained for The Mexico Valley Basin (MVB) from annual maximum precipitation data. For this purpose, 663 areas measured by a total of 135 pluviometric stations with records from 1920 to 2017 were defined, being the years from 1961 to 2013 the period with more data in common. For each area, a simultaneity analysis was performed in order to obtain the mean of simultaneous maximums and non-simultaneous maximums for areas of equal magnitude. Three different probability distribution functions were fitted to each series of simultaneous and non-simultaneous maximums, deriving in reduction area factors associated to different return periods as a function of the area. The above allowed the construction of ARF-A-RT curves, from curves, a general equation that describes the behavior of the reduction area factor as a function of area and return period in the Mexico Valley basin was obtained.
