Abstract: Excessive urbanization and industrialization, together with climate change significantly affect the intensity, incidence, and duration of extreme floods in the Persian Gulf region. The city of Bandar Abbas is distinguished by the heavy rains and the impenetrable soil, which encourage flash flood runoffs in the urban and industrial zones. The Geographic Information System (GIS), Water Modeling System (WMS), and Hydrologic Engineering Center-Hydrologic Modeling system (HEC-HMS) were utilized to assess the effects of floods in the vicinity of an industrial zone. Precipitation data from 1957 to 2021 was statistically processed and analyzed. With a 0.8-hour lag time in the corresponding watershed, flooding found to be a major concern while the hydrograph simulation from 16 to 17 Aug 2022 would contribute to the outlet point with 120 m3/s peak discharge and rainfall of 174 mm, corresponding to the 100 year return period. The Hydrologic Engineering Centre River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) model was used to calculate the corresponding water depth and velocity, in order to design a new main channel. Obtained results indicated that with the designed channel, the floodplain flow is controlled and conveyed properly to the downstream, leading to a safe site for building infrastructures.
