Abstract: Large-scale motions (LSMs) and Very-large scale motions (VLSMs) have been studied using a wide range of flow conditions (pipe flow, boundary layer flow, open-channel flow). While some studies have focused on the interaction between LSMs and VLSMs and secondary currents, their interaction with other large-scale coherent structures received less attention. The aim of the present work is to study the emergence and evolution of LSMs and VLSMs in shallow transversely sheared flow. The transverse shear can create a mixing layer populated by Kelvin-Helmholtz coherent structures (KHCSs). The behavior of LSMs and VLSMs in the presence of KHCSs is explored through the analysis of pre-multiplied spectra.
