Abstract: Local water level in the microtidal Baltic Sea is shaped by several local drivers, such as the water volume of the entire sea, storm surge and wave-driven effects. These components may appear at varying time and spatial scales. We categorise the shores of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in the eastern Baltic Sea (Fig. 1) in terms of their vulnerability with respect to coastal flooding using the likelihood of significantly higher extreme water levels in the future based on the Generalised Extreme Value (GEV) distribution.
