Abstract: This research aims to experimentally characterize a granular flow during jamming process induced by a sudden constriction. An ensemble of 31 equal experiments in a 1.5 m long chute sloping at 19 degrees was conducted. The outlet area of the chute was obstructed by a wall with two vertical gaps, twice the diameter of the granular material used. It was observed that a clogging event triggers a generalized jamming process. The granular system is highly dissipative due to collisions and enduring contacts among the particles, resulting in a general cooling process. Fields of the ensemble mean granular velocity and granular temperature were calculated. The most relevant remarks on these results are presented.
