Abstract: In the new stage, there have been significant changes in the meteorological and hydrological conditions of the Yangtze River Basin, the operating conditions of the Three Gorges Project, the water and sediment situation in the middle and lower reaches, shipping demand, and ecological environment protection. Coupled with the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the protection of the Yangtze River, and the complex international environment, the ecological environment in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River is facing new problems and challenges that urgently need to be studied and solved. This article analyzes the main impacts and problems of flood control, river channels, navigation, water supply safety, and rivers, lakes, and wetlands in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It proposes countermeasures and suggestions such as properly handling the top-level design of related impacts, conducting research on major issues, and establishing long-term support mechanisms.
