Abstract: The safeguarding of dam safety is the primary task to ensure long-term and stable operation of hydropower stations. With the advancement of new-generation information technology, the application of artificial intelligence technology in the water conservancy sector has become increasingly widespread, offering novel perspectives and tools for the construction of smart water conservancy. Thus, it is necessary to strengthen the integration of traditional water conservancy and modern information technologies, and combine digital twin with safety analysis and early warning technologies to enhance the safety level of project operation. In this paper, we introduce the overall framework of the key technologies for intelligent online safety monitoring of gravity dams. In particular, we elaborate on the model library of dam safety monitoring, intelligent online identification of the effectiveness and anomalies of dam safety monitoring data, mutual feed simulation of dam structures and service environment and evaluation methods for dam safety structure. The relevant achievements provide scientific and technological support for further improving China’s dam safety guarantee system and strengthening the “four pre-measures”, and guarantee the safe operation and comprehensive efficiency of gravity dams. The achievements have relatively high scientific value and broad prospects for popularization. At present, the achievements have been preliminarily applied to the construction of intelligent online safety monitoring of Gezhouba project, and is expected to offer reference for the construction and application of similar projects.
