Abstract: In order to effectively prevent and control soil erosion caused by the construction of large-scale coastal port areas in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Wuhan Xingang Yangluo Port Area Third Operation Zone Phase I Project was took as an example. The composition of engineering projects was Introduced (Including the dock and approach bridge area, container yard area, management and auxiliary facilities area, access road area, and construction production and living area). Difficulties such as how to choose a reasonable layout and vertical arrangement, the large quantity of earthwork and stonework, strong sensitivity to ecological environment, complex construction organization, high risk of soil erosion were analyzed, which was faced by engineering in soil and water conservation design. In response to the above issues, This paper proposed optimizing the engineering plane and vertical layout from the perspective of soil and water conservation. Construction organization design was optimized, new construction techniques for docks was proposed, suspended solids in water bodies was reduced. The paper also proposed how to protect and utilize topsoil, optimize earthwork balance; Technologies which developed a comprehensive system of soil erosion prevention and control measures, creative proposed for rainwater and flood storage and utilization through storage, infiltration, retention, and drainage. After years of operation, the project had achieved significant economic, social, and ecological benefits in soil and water conservation, which saved over 5 million yuan in investment for the construction unit, and all soil erosion prevention and control indicators had meet the requirements of prevention and control objectives. The above design ideas could provide reference for similar projects in soil and water conservation design.
