Abstract: Nowadays the CFD (Computacional Fluid Dynamics) is a reality and has helped the complex studies development. The great engineering shows us that model must be calibrated with physical models, for obtaining security results. This article compares the physical models of dam and stilling basin with gabions geometries, made by the Center Technologic Hydraulic Foundation (FCTH) of the São Paulo University, with computational model developed by the OpenFOAM tool. The models have square meshs with cells of 1cm, these models have two dimensions 2D, and k- ω SST turbulence model. The structures studieds show a big geometry variation, with 2m until 5m of high (esc. 1:1), 4,5m until 9m of basin length (esc. 1:1), and endsill high variation. The upstream waters levels are similar with the physical models. The downstream velocities are coherents with the numerical models, but with a higher error. Finally, were done numerical models with a prototype scale, attending the Reynolds similarity and to verify possible distorsions in the results (smaller than 20%).
