Abstract: In order to reduce the disturbance influence of the shock wave in non-prism chute or the wide-steep channel, it is necessary to fully understand the disturbance characteristics of the shock wave and analyze the influencing factors. The impact of the shock wave can be reduced to a minimum or even completely eliminated by using the inherent law of water flow movement, taking the advantages of the situation, adopting the optimized configuration, setting up the energy dissipation facilities and other measures. In this paper, the research object is the spillway and the main research is the formation mechanism of shock wave after the spillway control section ( the gate pier) and its propagation law in the chute. The hydraulic factor is the external influence condition of the shock wave after the gate pier, the pier configuration and the slope of the chute is the internal influence reason. In this paper, the internal and external influence factors of the shock wave after the gate pier are explored, and the formation mechanism and control condition of the shock wave after the gate pier are revealed. Taking the spillway model of multiple projects as examples, the shock wave and shock wave reduction scheme are researched. The results show that extending and adding tail pier is commonly used to reduce and eliminate the shock wave after the gate pier. The specific configuration and its adaptability for the shock wave after the gate pier in the specific engineering still need further study.
