Abstract: The form of the tsunami run-up in rivers is divided into breaking bore and undular bore. It is important to understand the propagation characteristics of hydraulic bore in the meandering river reach in order to prevent the damage from inundation induced by tsunami run-up. In this study, hydraulic bores generated by sudden gate opening are investigated in a meandering channel with the aim of clarifying the propagation characteristics of the bore, measuring the temporal variation in wave height. In the breaking bore, the wave height in a meandering channel is explained by the one-dimensional theoretical analysis of dam break flow and water surface profile for steady flow in a uniform curved channel. In the undular bore, however, because the wave height due to soliton fission is amplified in a meandering channel along the outer bank, it cannot be evaluated by the theoretical analysis.
