Abstract: A two-dimensional numerical model predicting supercritical flow in open channels has been developed using the finite volume method. The shallow-water equations are solved by the total variation diminishing weighted average flux method. Then the model is applied to a wide range of supercritical flow tests in rectangular chute bends and the results are compared with available experimental data. The results indicate that the model predicts the flow profile well for the channel bend with a width to channel curvature ratio of 0.04 and the present model has limitations for the other tests which have a higher ratio.
