Abstract: An overview is given of the research activities carried out on submerged vanes at WL∣ Delft Hydraulics. These activities are concentrated on the development of a morphological simulation system capable to simulate the effect of submerged vanes on an alluvial bed. The results of the simulations are shown and compare reasonably well with experimental results. Furthermore, physical model test results are presented and discussed in relation to the mathematical model. The measurement outcomes suggest a revision of the theoretical base of the model. Most experiments concern tests in a flume with a fixed bed and one or more submerged vanes. The measurements concern the flow velocity mostly downstream of the vanes and the lift and drag forces on the vane
