Abstract: The stream function is used to analyze the irrotational flow over spillway crests, with and without gate. Items of interest include the free surface location and determination of the discharge and pressure fields. The approach, which is based on the finite difference method with a new representation of Neumann's problem on boundary points, is mathematically simple and requires only simple programming. Results thus obtained are in agreement with those obtained by way of experiments.
