Abstract: The swash characteristics induced by regular waves were numerically investigated to resolve the correlations between swash asymmetry parameter k and incident wave parameters. Low correlations were obtained in the present study although the computed k values agree with previous field remote sensing data. For fixed wave height (H), the magnitude of parameter k increases with the wave period (T). Given same wave period, larger wave heights lead to higher k values, i.e. more sustained incoming waves and symmetric swash flow. Further studies of the surf-swash interaction mechanism and effective seaward boundary condition parameterization would be helpful to resolve the physical meaning of the parameter k.
