Abstract: This paper is concerned with a series of small-scaled experiments of regular waves to study the influence of (low) sea-dike crown-walls on mean wave overtopping discharges. The wave-wall interaction is also examined in detail, which gives some insight into the overtopping flow characteristics at this type of sea-dikes. From the experiments, an empirical formula of the wall influence on wave overtopping for the case of regular waves is proposed. A tentative relation between the maximum splash and wall geometric configuration is also established. The study provides useful hints on the use of crown-walls for sea-dikes so as to effectively reduce wave overtopping discharges as well as maximum wave splashing height.
