Abstract: Energy dissipation and scour control are all the serious concerns for the design of hydraulic structures. In the previous work, a kind of multiple slit-type energy dissipaters (M-STED) was developed, and its higher energy dissipation was demonstrated compared with the traditional slit-type ones (STED). In this study, the scour characteristics of the M-STED were experimentally investigated through three sets of those physical models with five cases, and comparisons were conducted between the results of both the STED and M-STED. Meanwhile, a scour form index was proposed to describe the asymmetry of the scour.
