About
The Federal Agency for Water Management (BAW) supplies services for the public. BAW develops decision support for solving water resources challenges. The Federal Agency for Water Management was founded in 1995, as an integration of four different agencies: the ‘Federal Agency for Water Ecology, Fisheries and Lake Research’, the ‘Federal Agency for Land and Water Management Research’, the ’Federal Agency for Water Quality’ and the ’Federal Agency for Hydraulic Engineering and Calibration of Hydrometrical Current Meters’. We aim to support the Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management (BML) within the framework of national and international water resources management. We are partners of several European water research organisations and cooperate on a variety of different projects. We deliver studies to support strategic decisions for water resources management and point out future developments. In addition, we support the administration of federal states and communities to implement laws and regulations, and using our expertise we also support citizens, private organisations, and institutions. At both the European and international level we cooperate with universities as well as research centres and agencies. In addition, within the framework of the legal standards for water and environmental protection our institutes carry out topical work for agriculture, hydraulic engineering, fisheries, and aquaculture.
