China Water Resources Beifang Investigation, Design and Research Co. Ltd. (BIDR) is a Class A investigation and design firm in the water resources and electricity sector in China. Its predecessor is an over 50-year old ministry-run design institute, incorporated in January 2003 as a large science and technology oriented enterprise. BIDR works mainly in exploration, survey, design, scientific research, and engineering supervision in different regions, nations and industries, but is also expanding its business into the fields of new energy, ecological and environmental protection, designing consultancy, and construction management. BIDR has qualification certificates in seven fields. These include water conservancy, electrical power, architecture, water navigation, highway, municipal public works, and agriculture and forest. Over the years, BIDR has undertaken projects in such realms as river basin planning, long distance interbasin water transfer, large water control projects and dams, deep and long tunnels, TBM technology, high-head diversion and run-of-river power stations, soft rock foundation treatment, large river barrages, river ecological improvement, high-lift staged pumping station, etc. The major planning, investigation and design projects undertaken by BIDR include: comprehensive planning of the Haihe River basin, national water and hydropower resources planning, reconstruction and expansion of the Sanmenxia Project on the Yellow River, the Panjiakou Water Control Project, the Wanjiazhai Water Control Project, the Shapotou Water Control Project, the Gelantan Hydropower Station, Luanhe-Tianjin Water Diversion Project, the Shanxi Wanjiazhai Yellow River Diversion Project, the Middle and East Routes of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the Zhujiang River Embankment, and river improvement of the Zhangweixin River, Duliujian River, and Yongding Rivers. We have also undertaken about 90 projects in more than 40 different countries, including the Teluk Bahang Water Supply Project in Malaysia, the Imboulou Hydropower Station Project in Congo, the Gomal Zam Dam Multipurpose Project in Pakistan, rehabilitation work of the Parwan Irrigation System in Afghanistan, the Nadarivatu Renewable Energy Project in the Fiji Islands, etc.
