About
Today, Grupo ICE is made up of four companies that offer state-of-the-art solutions in electricity and telecommunications to the inhabitants of Costa Rica: the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), which operates as the parent company; the National Company of Power and Light (CNFL); Costa Rican Radiographic (RACSA) and, more recently, Collection Management. Although the CNFL and RACSA were born decades before, it was only after they joined ICE –in the 1960s– that they strengthened their contribution to electrification and telecommunications, from a social and environmental perspective. Today, for example, ICE and CNFL supply almost 78 per cent of the country's electricity from renewable energies. The Group has a robust network of 40 generation plants and state-of-the-art transmission and generation systems. ICE is also a world benchmark in geothermal energy research and development, and has an electrical matrix that combines various sources: hydroelectric, geothermal, solar, wind, and biomass. Thermal energy is only used as a backup.
