Since 2003, Jérôme Le Coz is a researcher in the River Hydraulics team of the RiverLy research unit of INRAE in Lyon, France, with a one-year scientific stay (2015-2016) at NIWA in Christchurch, New Zealand. Chief Engineer of Ponts, Eaux et Forêts, he holds an engineering degree from École Polytechnique (2001) and a Master's degree in hydrology and hydrogeology from Paris VI University (2003). During his thesis (2007) on the hydro-sedimentary functioning of alluvial river oxbows, he discovered with wonder his first hydro-acoustic profiler (ADCP), image velocimetry and the hydrometric community. With his colleagues and students, Jérôme has since been developing research and tools for the measurement and modeling of liquid and solid flows in rivers, and for the quantification of associated uncertainties (Habilitation to Direct Research defended in 2017). He is the co-author of a national guide on ADCP measurements (2008) and a guide on regulatory flow controls (2011), and he co-develops and distributes the free software BaRatin (rating curve estimation) and Fudaa-LSPIV (video flow measurement). He co-manages the French-speaking professional network Groupe Doppler Hydrométrie (400 subscribers), the Hydrometry section of the Société Hydrotechnique de France, and is a member of the national standardization committee of the French Hydrometric Society, a member of the AFNOR X10C Hydrometry national standardization committee, in connection with ISO and CEN. He chairs the international organizing committee of the AIRH/WMO/AISH hydrometry courses.
