I am a Senior Researcher at the Chair of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. I am also an Honorary research fellow in the Department of Infrastructure Engineering, at the University of Melbourne. I am a hydrogeoecologist with interdisciplinary experience in fluvial geomorphology, hydraulic engineering, freshwater ecology, and remote sensing. I am interested to understand how physical river habitat drives freshwater diversity and supports long-term river resilience in the context of climate change and global anthropogenic changes: particularly those caused by hydropower. My research focuses on fundamental questions related to the mechanisms that intertwine physical river processes and ecological functions. I use this fundamental understanding to underpin research applications and inform sustainable water management decisions. I employ innovative tools at a range of spatio-temporal scales in the field and in the lab to understand how rivers operate. They range from high-temporal resolution river logging devices to drone-based imagery data covering large riverscapes. I use these to generate insights to inform theory and policy in water resources management.
