Abstract: Transient granular flow can be solved assuming that the dynamics are well described under the hypothesis of shallow equations including complex rheology terms. For this purpose a Roe type first order scheme on 2D meshes is employed. Particular attention is devoted to the numerical discretization of fluxes and source terms which are based in the Riemann theory but including the effects of gravity acceleration. The resulting numerical scheme is robust enough for handling advancing front conditions and severe transient and rapid situations. In addition, as the computational effort consumes an important amount of time, these calculations have been also performed taking advantage of GPU technology. The numerical results are validated against experimental data.
