Abstract: Seagrasses are important ecosystem engineers in many coastal areas, where they contribute to dissipate waves and reduce sediment transport. Recent studies have shed light on the wave attenuation properties of seagrass canopies in oscillatory flows, but their performance in combined wave-current flows remains mostly unexplored. In the present work we measure wave dissipation of seagrass meadows across a wide range of hydraulic conditions and use the data to validate and discuss relevant models for predicting wave attenuation.
