Abstract: The current paper aims at analysing the volume variation of air pockets in pressurized transient flows using video recordings and advanced image processing techniques. An experimental facility is used to collect pressure-head data and high-speed video recordings of air pockets during hydraulic transient events. In- house software is developed for image processing, including Gaussian filtering and Image sharpening. This study compares the experimental air pocket volume variation with the theoretical value obtained by the ideal gas law equation, assuming a constant temperature under different initial conditions.
