Abstract: This work assesses the prediction of the flow in a lateral cavity, which is a semi-enclosed volume attached to a main channel, using Large Eddy simulation (LES). Velocity field obtained by PIV on a physical model was compared with LES results, which captured the main eddies. The main structures of the flow and the exchange mechanisms across the interface between main channel and lateral cavity were predicted.
