Rita F. Carvalho is Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Coimbra, Portugal, and researcher at MARE - Centre for Marine and Environmental Sciences, which is part of ARNET - Aquatic Research Network. She has a BSc, MSc, PhD and Habilitation in Civil Engineering. She is a member of the International Association for Hydraulic and Environmental Resources [IAHR] since 2009, in which she has held leadership roles on the Hydraulic Structures Technical Committee (2013-2019), and on the Fluid Mechanics Technical Committee leadership team in 2021 (elected in 2020). The main activity is related to teaching and researching focused on physical and numerical models (CFD), in the aim of Hydraulic Structures associated with Urban Drainage, Fluvial and Coastal Engineering. She is interested in the combination of CFD modelling, imaging techniques and scaled physical models and to consider their application to environmental and heritage protection. She has been teaching Hydraulics, Numerical and Computational Methods, Hydraulic Structures, Fluvial and Marine Hydraulics, Experimental Hydraulics, Complementary/Digital skills and Advances Laboratory Techniques; she supervised several young researchers, PhD and MSc students and has been involved in several international research projects. She participated in more than 150 congresses and has been involved in more than 30 scientific and review committees of national and international congresses. She is also a reviewer of several international journals. She collaborated in several services for Municipalities and cooperated with companies.
