Abstract: This study analyzes the two-dimensional diffusion wave transformation method for hydrological studies in a Mediterranean semiarid basin using HEC-HMS from the US Army Corps of Engineers. The study area is the catchment of Albujon in the Region of Murcia (Southeast of Spain), characterized by significant climatic variability, scarce and seasonal precipitation, and a high rate of evapotranspiration, which complicate hydrological modeling. The study aims to analyze the influence of cell sizes and various model parameters on computation time and results, compared with real events at the Albujon gauging station. A comparison with traditional semi-distributed hydrological modeling will also be conducted.
