Abstract: The present work deals with the application of the new form for the local Richardson number, first proposed by Yannopoulos (2006), to groups of three, six and large-number interacting buoyant jets of positive buoyancy, issued from nozzles on the apexes of horizontal regular polygons (rosette diffusers) vertically upwards into a quiescent fluid environment. It is shown that this form, which is common for single round and plane buoyant jets, shows identical limiting behaviour to the customary definition of the Richardson number, as expected, while approximates accurately (errors less than 10% ) the Richardson number behaviour for the plane buoyant jet equivalent to the large-number group of interacting round buoyant jets.
