About
The Hydraulic Research Laboratory is in charge of hydraulic, sedimentological and nautical studies for the Walloon inland waterways network and all of its structures, in support of the territorial departments. Its areas of expertise cover structures hydraulic (locks, dams, fishways, dikes, hydroelectric developments, etc.), river hydraulics (modeling of floods, sediment transport and erosion phenomena, etc. .), canals and issues linked to navigation, urban drainage works (networks, storm basins, etc.). The studies are based on physical laboratory modeling (scale models), numerical modeling, and in situ measurements. The Lab coordinates the management of sediments from waterways and storm basins dredging, including studies on new opportunities for the valorization of these products. It manages the characterization of sediments before dredging, and develops a network for measuring the transport of sediments towards waterways. The Lab is also responsible for land management expertise. It coordinates missions related to the quality control of excavated soil and supports territorial departments in all land issues they may encounter (polluted land, specifications, Walterre platform, etc.). Finally, the Lab coordinates the management of storm basins in the Walloon road and motorway network. It carries out pond cleaning and improvement work. It prepares periodic maintenance operations. It assists territorial departments in studies related to the improvement of existing basins or the development of new SPW MI storm basins. The Hydraulic Research Laboratory also develops cooperation with academic research teams and may realize studies for third parties.
