Dr Didier Bousmar has been working in the Hydraulic Research Laboratory of the Service Public de Wallonie, Belgium since 2004 where he has been in charge of various studies on navigation locks, river weirs and fish passes, involving not only numerical and physical modeling, but also field investigations. Didier Bousmar has more than 20 years of experience in fluvial and structure hydraulics. He has been appointed Head of the Research Lab in 2020. He is also invited Professor at the Polytechnical School of UCLouvain.

Major Achievements:
Since my incorporation in the Service Public de Wallonie, I had the chance to contribute to all large development projects ongoing on the Walloon waterways network (several new large locks, waterway upgrades, etc.) and I gained large expertise in navigation related structures. In 2002, I obtained my PhD with a work on flood flows in compound channels. I also pursued this topic, managing the working group on compound channels under the auspices of the Fluvial Hydraulics Committee. Lastly, as secretary of the LOC, I significantly contributed to the success of River Flow 2002, pioneer of the well-know conference series.
