About
The Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute (CRSRI; we were known as the YRSRI, the Yangtze River Scientific Research Institute before 2005), is a state non-profit scientific research organisation, subordinate to the Changjiang Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources, and was originally established in 1951. CRSRI offers sci-tech support for national water conservancy, the harnessing and development of the Yangtze River as well as water administration. CRSRI also provides technical services for various fields involved in the development of the national economy. We are composed of 12 research departments and several sci-tech enterprises, mainly engaged in the following specialties: flood control and disaster mitigation, river silt, water resources and ecologic environment, soil and water conservation, engineering safety and disaster prevention, spatial information technology applications, hydraulics, geotechnique and seepage, rock mechanics, hydraulic structures, foundation treatments, building materials, blasting and anti-seismic work, electromechanical control equipment, and automation and hydraulics. We have scientific research bases in Wuhan, Yichang, Chongqing, and Danjiangkou, including the Flood Control Model of the Yangtze River in Wuhan. CRSRI also set up the Key Laboratory of Rivers and Lakes Harnessing and Flood Control of Ministry of Water Resources (MWR), the Key Laboratory of Geotechnical Mechanics & Engineering of MWR, the Research Center of Water Engineering Safety and Disaster Prevention of MWR, and the Engineering Quality Inspection Center of Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute. We hold qualification certificates of engineering consultancy, safety assessment for large and medium scale reservoirs & dams, surveying and mapping, water resources evaluation, soil and water conservation monitoring, geological hazard control engineering design, engineering construction supervision and engineering construction, and also for the second level archives of the state. The Department of Post-graduate Education of CRSRI offers a Master's degree program of first-level discipline in Hydraulic Engineering and Master's degree programs of subordinate disciplines in Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics, and River Dynamics. CRSI also publishes the "Journal of Yangtze River Scientific Research Institute", one of the core Chinese journals at home and abroad.
