Assoc. Prof. Gordon Gilja graduated from the University of Zagreb Faculty of Civil Engineering in 2008 in the field of hydraulic engineering, and defended his Ph.D dissertation in 2014. Since 2008 he has been employed under the Department of Hydroscience and Engineering. He has (co)authored more than 100 scientific papers and participated in several international research projects. As a member of the organizing or scientific committee, he participated in the organization of the scientific conferences, most notable for IWA Eastern European Young Water Professionals Conference, IAHR Young Professionals Congress, IAHR World Congress, and European Geosciences Union. As an advisor, or immediate supervisor, he mentored 87 students under their final/graduate theses, resulting with 5 applications for Rector’s award. In total, through cooperation with students on their theses, he published 16 papers in which students were co-authors. He has been continuously engaged with Faculty’s development, as a student in the Faculty’s Student Union and the Faculty Council as an elected representative of the Ph.D students, afterwards in 2018 he was appointed as the ECTS coordinator at the Faculty and is a member of the Committee for International Cooperation. As a member of the project task team, he has implemented student internship into the curriculum, establishing Career Center for students serving as a bridge between students and companies from the civil engineering sector.
